INDIANAPOLIS – Tony Kanaan led the ABC Supply team in qualifying today on the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in his No. 14 Chevrolet Dallara. Kanaan will start 12th while his young teammate Matheus “Matt” Leist will start 21st.
Michael Colliver is Matheus Leist’s race engineer. Colliver has been with the team on and off since 2008 when he worked full-time with Darren Manning. He returned to a full-time position last year and helped out in between with the team’s third car at Indy, among other projects. Following are his answers to questions about this weekend’s race on the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
INDIANAPOLIS – Matheus “Matt” Leist passed his rookie test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s 2.5-mile oval track today along with fellow rookies Robert Wickens and Kyle Kaiser. “Rookie Orientation done, ready to race or test,” the Brazilian native said afterwards. “It was good fun. The ABC car was looking good today.”
INDIANAPOLIS—Tony Kanaan departed from a personal tradition here at Indianapolis Motor Speedway but at the end of the day, he emerged at the top of the speed charts in the No. 14 ABC Supply Chevrolet as 21 veterans took to the track in preparation for the 102nd Running of the Indianapolis 500.
BIRMINGHAM – The Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama resumed today under partly cloudy skies but before it was over the skies opened up and the race finished in rain. The weather didn’t dampen Matheus “Matt” Leist’s spirits though as he finished 12th which is his best finish of the season under challenging conditions. His ABC Supply Chevrolet was the third highest Chevy-powered car to finish with the Team Penske Chevrolets of Josef Newgarden winning and Simon Pagenaud placing ninth.
BIRMINGHAM – Despite the beautiful weather at the picturesque Barber Motorsport Park, there were few smiles in the AJ Foyt Racing paddock after this afternoon’s qualifying session. Both drivers struggled in yesterday’s practice sessions around the 2.3-mile road course so the team made some wholesale changes overnight with Tony Kanaan finding the car feeling a bit better in the morning warmup.
Tony Kanaan is in his 21st year of Verizon IndyCar Series competition with 346 starts, 17 wins, 15 poles, 132 Top 5s and 218 Top 10s. Matheus “Matt” Leist (his last name rhymes with waist) is in his first year of IndyCar competition with three starts. He made the Firestone Fast 6 in his first start in St. Petersburg, and finished his first race on the lead lap in Long Beach.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The ABC Supply team continues to make steady progress despite one of its more challenging weekends of the season. Tony Kanaan claimed his second straight eighth place finish in the No. 14 ABC Supply Chevrolet while Matheus “Matt” Leist finished his first race on the lead lap in his No. 4 ABC Supply Chevrolet.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Under warm sunny skies, qualifying for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach saw veteran Tony Kanaan make the cut into Round 2 as rookie Matheus “Matt” Leist was pipped by veteran Sebastien Bourdais in the final seconds of the first round.
Eric Cowdin joined AJ Foyt Racing in October as the Technical Director and Tony Kanaan’s race engineer. Following are his thoughts on this weekend’s race on the Streets of Long Beach.
On the biggest challenge at Long Beach: “One of the biggest challenges is the track. It will change constantly through the weekend. There are different surface types all around the track that will gain grip at different rates.”
PHOENIX – The ABC Supply team had its ups and downs Saturday night at ISM Raceway but Tony Kanaan posted the best showing for the team in its last six outings with his eighth place finish in the 250-lap race. He moved up to ninth in the Verizon IndyCar Series point standings.
PHOENIX—Tony Kanaan used his experience to negotiate a big wiggle on the first hot lap of his two lap qualifying run and still managed to salvage the lap and qualify ninth in the No. 14 ABC Supply Chevrolet. His rookie teammate Matheus “Matt” Leist will make his first IndyCar start on an oval from the […]
